Metropolitan Archbishop Bobby Land Jr. speaks amidst
"A Nation Seeks Justice"
''I am deeply saddened over the recent killing death of George Floyd. We pray for the repose and eternal soul of George Floyd. The generations of disparities and systematic injustices inflicted particularly on people of color in America and around the world has reached it's peak. We have witnessed all forms of lawlessness and a nation literally on fire. These disparities have taken its toll on our american culture and communities in more disparities, innocent victims of death, distrust of those in authority, looting, rioting, more lawlessness, destruction of property, and a deeper blow against businesses and the american economy. Many of these businesses affected are black owned, businesses that employed black people, many low income families who now must rebuild and find ways to support their families. However, if black lives really do matter, then black political leaders, black clergy, black activist, and black media must address the overwhelming facts and proof of statistics that black on black crimes, killings, and murders in our nation far out number those perceived at the hands of police.
As we witness those in these communities who were not politically active, but criminally active, the media and public must cry out against police brutality. However, we must as well show equal grief, resentment, and insult for crimes against humanity in respect to black on black killings and murders with the same force and passion as now.
As George Floyd is memorialized and laid to rest today, as the world reflects on his life, It is my prayer that the Nation also remember all the silent victims who have experienced crimes against humanity inflicted by their own kind. Even in recent times these voices have gone and continue to go unheard. May God have mercy on our nation and communities. May the faithful pray without ceasing that God heal our land. As we recall the prophetic words of Amos the prophet, but let justice run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.''
